Ever launch the Mail app on your iPhone to find a stuck outbox message that just won’t send — or maybe it did send but for some reason it still shows as not sent? While in some cases you can simply delete it and move on, in others, the Edit button is greyed out and unusable. If that sounds like a problem you’re having, here’s a fix I found: My partner recently had this problem over the weekend. It seems to happen more commonly with emails that have large files attached to them. In her case, it was a video.

The sender confirmed they had received the message, yet it still sat in her outbox, uneditable, for several days. After hard restarting the Mail app, rebooting her iPhone, and even turning iCloud Mail on and off again, I finally figured out how to trick the Mail app into letting me delete the stuck message: How to delete stuck outbox messages on iPhone • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to launch Control Center. • Enable Airplane Mode. • Now launch the Mail app and access your Outbox where the problem message resides. • You should now be able to tap the Edit button in the upper right hand corner — if you can’t just hard quit the Mail app in the multitasker and launch it again. • Confirm your selection in popup menu. • You should now have an empty outbox. In some cases, stuck outbox messages on iPhone can apparently consume lots of cellular data (I read a few horror stories in Apple’s support forums when looking for an answer). So if you have any, especially if they show a little loading circle like the one in the image above, I’d suggest clearing them out using the steps above.
Hello, This issue happens on Outlook 2010. Aparently this problem isnt only happenning when users are offline. For some reason the emails are getting stuck in outbox, and when outlook freezes, users must close Oulook and reopen it.when outlook is back online the messages disappear. It appears that for some reason outlook stops working properly, but keeps permiting replying to emails (they stay stuck in outbox.), reading emails, etc.but when a user trys to use some other functionality of outlook it freezes. When ask if the emails are avaible in there, are you refering if the emails are in Outbox of OWA? Thank You Miguel Silva.
I've seen this bug several times, which always results in lost emails. The problem always occurs if Outlook connectivity has changed, e.g. Connected -> offline -> connected. Outlook says 'Connected To Microsoft Exchange' but somehow it doesn't send or receive any emails. I'm running Win7 + Office 2010, and the problem usually happens if I do the following: 1) Outlook connected and working. 2) Put computer on Stand by without closing Outlook 3) Start computer from Stand By 4) Outlook says it is connected 5) Try to send and receive 6) Outlook freezes and has to be restarted 7) All items in the Outbox are lost I don't mind an application failure, but the loss of data is a big problem. I totally agree, an app crash is one thing but when it loses your data as well - that is a much bigger problem!
We're experiencing exactly the same issues within my company where mails will get 'stuck' in the Outbox and then when Outlook is restarted the mails have disappeared. This is proving to be a major problem for us at the moment as users are not always aware that their mail has not sent following one of these crashes! Is there no fix available from MS yet that will resolve this problem? I'm having the same issue.
